Eczema

Eczema manifests as scaly, cracked, dry, and pink plaques on the cheeks, front of the elbows, behind the knees, and sometimes on the less oily regions of the skin, such as the forearms and the legs. In children it can manifest as pinpoint bumps on each hair pore on the torso. It is a multi-factorial condition, due to a mutated protein in the dead layer of the skin that results in greater water loss than normal skin, or overactivity of certain immune cells that home in the skin.

Treatment of Eczema

Dr. Silvers goes over proper bathing, skin care do's and don’ts, and makes dietary recommendations that may help optimize the function of immune cells. If need be, he prescribes topical or oral medications. Narrow band ultraviolet light therapy is helpful for many adult patients with eczema.
